Summer Film Series Opens

King Corn

"King Corn" will help you see how corny America really is.

King Corn First of Four Films

Thursday, June 17 we open the summer season of the Local Motion Film Series with King Corn.

This engaging, eye-opening documentary tells the story of modern American dependence on one crop–corn–laden with pesticides, genetically modified, subsidized by tax dollars, and seemingly everywhere in the food chain. A funny, informative, and whimsical film about just how corny modern America really is.

After the film, two experts on holistic health, nutrition, and sustainable business will answer questions. Ted Butchart is a naturopathic physician educated at Bastyr University in Seattle, with offices in Charlottesville and Staunton.  Ted has been on the board of Blue Ridge Permaculture and has taught classes in permaculture and straw bale construction for over 20 years.  His wife Ellen Butchart is an MBA candidate in Sustainable Management at Bainbridge Graduate Institute (www.bgi.edu) in Seattle.
