Dr. Jon Cawley, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies at Roanoke College will talk about his project to seed heirloom apple trees in America today. He visits localities, identifies a key local element, and donates heirloom apple trees to the area. Here in Staunton, he and his students will be donating varieties of Elizabethan Era Heirloom Apples to the Newtown Community Garden on the morning following this talk.
Come hear about his project, about the specific Elizabethan apples coming to Staunton, and how all this relates to sustainability and resilience through gardening. And learn a bit about the lore — and romance — of apples through the ages.
FREE! — (Pay-What-You-Will donations will go to building a Staunton Historic District-approved fence for the Newtown Community Garden.)
